This coupling features NPT (American standard pipe taper thread) with a 60° tooth angle and 1:16 thread taper, creating an effective mechanical seal when tightened. The connection requires no welding, offering convenient installation and disassembly. This widely used connection method is common in industrial and commercial piping systems throughout North America and globally.
304 stainless steel (cast as CF8) offers excellent corrosion resistance in water, air, and weakly corrosive environments. Its combination of mechanical properties and workability makes it ideal for manufacturing low-pressure pipe fittings in water supply, drainage, and general chemical applications.
Class 150 cast couplings are fundamental components for connecting straight pipe sections in low-pressure systems. They are widely used in:

Q1: What are the differences between casting and forged pipe couplings in terms of usage?
A1: Casting pipe couplings are designed for low-pressure systems such as plumbing and low-pressure gas, offering excellent cost-effectiveness. Forged pipe couplings are typically used in high-pressure applications.
Q2: Do I need to use sealing material when installing this NPT threaded pipe coupling?
A2: Yes. NPT is a tapered pipe thread, and although it has mechanical sealing capabilities, to ensure 100% leak-proof performance and prevent galling of stainless steel threads, PTFE tape or a professional pipe thread sealant must be used during installation.
Q3: Can this 304 pipe coupling be used to connect carbon steel pipes?
A3: Physically, it is possible (as long as the threads are both NPT), but we do not recommend long-term mixed use. Contact between stainless steel and carbon steel in a humid environment can easily cause "galvanic corrosion," leading to accelerated rusting at the connection point. We recommend using it with SMLSCO's stainless steel nipples.
